seeking employment. I was an attorney until compelled to ” retire ” before I was prepared due to 2 back surgeries. I am 62 and seek a job in a TOTALLY NEW VENUE. NOT the LAW. I have myriad transferable skill sets and abilities and great experience and perspective. Further I possess the very important sense of humor. I live in the greater Boston, Ma. metro area , however, willing to consider other locations.
Thanks Allie I will check out these sites.
Hey rgonick1 – this is a tough time in history to change careers. What type of work does your resume say that you are seeking?
rgonick – very sorry to hear about your situation
can you explain how a back injury prevented you from practicing law? i wasn’t aware that being a lawyer was a very physical job? i imagine most of what is available today is much more physically demanding?
what have you done in terms of job searching so far? have you at least had a few interviews? and how long have you been looking?
rgonick1- what areas of employment are you seeking? Will you still use your law degree for your next opportunity? Perhaps you want to teach (on campus or online) or be a researcher for a law firm? Or are you totally looking to work in a different industry? If so, what skills are you referring to? Perhaps I can help you with some ideas.
rgonick1…I can totally relate, 36 years Chiropractic practice, never sick a day in my life, was diagnosed with a crippling incureable desease.. I also went looking to replace my income, I succeed in the least expected way. Have you thought of your own Business? it’s easier than you think..I am willing to show you how.
Boomers beware, maintaining wellness is much easier to do than trying to find a cure…and Yes, you also will age unless you do something about it.

Thanks for the list. I think it would be good to have a discussion on the obsticals Boomers face when going to look for new jobs. Clearly, there are some challenges to overcome and it’s usually on behalf of the employer.
Thank, some valuable resources. I know I can use them.
I have always thought that you should be self-employed. As a baby boomer getting ready to retire – now is the best time to start your own business!
