Times change, and, as difficult as it is to say goodbye to your life of full-time parenting when your children leave the nest, it is also an opportunity to step into a brand new era of your life. And, there’s no reason not make this era as fun and fabulous as can be. Any member of the baby boomer generation is no stranger to a good time, so why not re-design your home to re-energize that youthful spirit and enliven the new sense of freedom you may feel now that you have less daily obligations.
Here are some great inspiration points for small home re-models that can start to change everything:
1. Invest in a Full Bar
Maybe you already have an area of the house designated for storing your favorite whiskey and vodka and you never leave the store without a nice mixer or two, but do have what it takes to make drink requests on demand? Having a full bar is a blast and a fun way to try your hand at bar-tending and creating your own unique concoctions.
2. Put in a Sauna
There is nothing like a sauna to relax, loosen muscles, and release toxins. If you live in a neighborhood that allows it, invest in a wood-burning rock sauna built from pine to get the full effect.
3. Install a Whirlpool
If a sauna isn’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of whirlpools available at all price ranges, and they are wonderful sources of relaxation and fun. Throw a party and invite your closest friends for appetizers, drinks and some well-deserved soaking.
4. Make an Exercise Room
If you have always had fitness dreams that you never thought were possible while you had kids, this is the time to fulfill those goals. The body can change and strengthen at any age, so there is no excuse not to get in the best shape of your life. Meet with a personal trainer to figure out the perfect exercise regimen and get advice on gym equipment, then invest in pieces that you will enjoy using regularly.
5. Get a Game Room
A game room, or a room dedicated to anything that you enjoy doing, is a great way to create a space in your life solely dedicated to fun. Maybe a movie room is the ticket, or a library. Whatever it is that will bring you enjoyment and offer a safe harbor from daily obligations is a great thing to add to your home.
6. Create an Outdoor Party Area
Ever wanted to throw a garden party? Or a summertime afternoon fiesta? If you love having people over, but do it less frequently than you would like, why not re-design your home to support all the parties you can handle? Invest in an outdoor fireplace, covered seating areas, an area to dance and mingle, and plenty of lush greenery.
7. Design the Ultimate Guest Room
Maybe your home’s idea of a guest room has long been a pull out in the basement or a quick change of your son’s bed sheets, but now you have the extra space to create room to have people stay the night in comfort. Go the extra mile and invest in soft sheets, great quality towels, and bathroom and living essentials that will make your guests feel right at home.
