6 Nifty Gadgets Seen at the CES That You Can Own This Year

Every January, tech companies from around the world travel to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to showcase their hottest gadgets. Some amazing technology was seen at this year's show, but it's important to remember that not everything presented will be available for the masses in the near future. So, what were some of the items featured at the show that you can look forward to owning and utilizing soon? USA Today has put together a list of 6 awesome gadgets that you can either buy now or sometime this year:

1. L’Oréal’s UV Sense: a small tracker that fits on your fingernail that gives you UV, pollen, humidity, temperature, and air quality levels.

2. The Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant: a tabletop smart screen that acts as a touchscreen tablet, virtual personal assistant, and smart-home hub. To address privacy concerns, you can mute the speaker and flip a switch to cover the camera.

3. Merge VR: a new plastic Nerf-like toy gun that pairs with an iPhone app to play games, putting you in a virtual reality game without any special glasses.

4. Travis the Translator: a real-time language translator that listens and talks back and can translate 80 languages. Great for travelers.

5. BUDDY: a “social companion” robot that can interact with you. It can turn on music, answer simple questions, show a live feed of your house, smile and laugh.

6. The LinkSquare: a magic marker-sized scanner that can tell if meat is rotten, whether alcohol is fake, if prescription pills are what they’re supposed to be, and if the money in your pocket is counterfeit.
