Well Steve,

I am not sure where you are in this generation, but I remember my high school Algebra, Geometry and Calculus teacher, Mr Duke telling us that soon computers would be THE way for anyone interested in Math to go. I swore to myself I would NEVER "go there".

LaughSurprised So when I ended a 39 year career in IT last year!!!!!!!!!SurprisedSmile!!!!!!!!!!! I had been "eating my words" for almost 40 years.

I remember when I entered IT, data processing it was called in 1971, they were BEGGING people to enter the industry, (sorry 'bout this) especially women. So it is not surprising to me that MOST boomers are not computer savvy since the dates are 1946 – 1964. I started in 1971 only because I went to a 6-month tech school, Control Data. The folks my age with college degrees only entered the industry 6 years later quoting what the professor said in class. That was 1977.

Of course, that was other than the whizzes that stumbled into high-tech development roles

OK, I am way off the jobs/careers topic here………. sorry.http://www.babyboomers.com/wp-…..eys/', 'Cry', '1');" src="../../../wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cry.gif" alt="Cry" />

What I am trying to say, in answer to your comments, is that the majority of our generation never learned how to deal with computers unless it was mandated by their job. And even if that was true, most of those ONLY learned the applications they HAD to to do the job. MOST companies did not allow employees to access anything beyond the applications they had to to accomplish their work, on the penalty of being fired until the last 10 or 12 years.

I have several friends that I have shown how to use the computer, the internet and answer questions for. I wish more in our generation would learn, but they need to find a need to learn. Slowly they may, as they get phones that require it and so on, but it is REALLY the X'ers and Y'ers that have grown up with computers being equivalent to what toasters and microwaves are to the Boomers.

GEEZ, it was only last week that I bought a smart phone and found that it was SMARTER than I amhttp://www.babyboomers.com/wp-…..eys/', 'Surprised', '1');" src="../../../wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif" alt="Surprised" />Laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CraZ……………..http://www.babyboomers.com/wp-…..eys/', 'Laugh', '1');" src="../../../wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif" alt="Laugh" />

I checked out your blog and left a couple of comments. I like what you are doing! I read the statistic that you quoted about baby boomers being one of the fastest growing demographic in using the internet.

I've read that same statistic other places and find it interesting. If we baby boomers are all that, then where are they all.  I have a hard time finding people in that age group that even know how to turn the damned thing on!

As boomers, many of us are at the point that our "first career" may be winding down, yet we are not ready to just pack it in and play golf all day everyday. For those of us still hungry for the business arena, we may need to consider a "second career." (No, I am not trying to get you!)

A second career allows you to be in charge of your time, your purpose, and your location. It lets you remain busy in a satisfying business venture while giving you the freedom to persue life's more exciting opportunities like travel and community service.

I have created a blog to explore these possibilities and I would like to invite you to stop by. You can find it at BabyBoomEntrepreneurs.com. Don't forget to leave a comment and join in the conversation.
