Jeff Apton is a Classic Boomer. Though he doesn’t believe in perpetual youth—his arthritic pains remind him otherwise—he does believe that life is a journey and the roads we take ultimately help us to grow, if we read the maps correctly.
His education and career path took him in several directions: a short stint in law school and graduate degree in psychology. Ultimately, Jeff landed in the healthcare field, an exciting time during the years when major advances were made in so many therapeutic areas. He stayed for almost 30 years.
“Marketing found me, and I loved it, Jeff said. I was fortunate to always work with the best and the brightest: Merck, when they ruled the pharmaceutical world and then Pfizer, when they took the crown.”
After his corporate stint with Merck, he owned two successful Medical Education agencies working in the US and Internationally, Jeff created numerous programs to deliver better information to health care professionals and consumers. Many of these programs were featured in industry and national media, including Pharmaceutical Executive, Newsweek, CNN, BBC, etc.
“Coming up with creative ideas and making them happen was my forte (for example, producing the first high definition videos of surgical procedures in the OR when few knew even what HD was). Not surprisingly, I never rushed to retire, although by 2004 I decided to move on.”
Since his first retirement, Jeff dedicates several hours a week to helping other reach their personal goals. He serves as Vice Chairman and counselor for a Connecticut Chapter of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), a non-profit association that has helped over 8.5 million small businesses owners across the US.
And he has become a Boomeranger (his term): a Boomer who re-entered the world of business. As President of Pan American Dental Tours (www.panamdentaltours.com), Jeff works to help other Boomers needing expensive dental work to get quality care and preserve their savings going outside the US.
