5 Ways to Make Money in Retirement

Whether you are in need of some extra money to supplement your pension or just want something to occupy your mind, it's never too late to think about pursuing a career in your later years. Here are  5 ways to make money in retirement.

Delivery Driver

The primary duties of a courier driver are transporting items that require urgent delivery.

With a change of scenery with every courier job, you're not stuck behind a desk, and you can generally choose hours to suit your lifestyle.  Being a courier driver will mean you keep physically active as you will be back and forth from your vehicle to doorsteps. It will also keep you mentally engaged as you will be planning your best routes, tallying up your hours, and communicating with all sorts of customers.  Check out employment websites, local papers, or go directly to companies such as California Courier Services to find job vacancies.

Pet Sitter/Dog Walker

If you love animals and are physically fit, perhaps consider becoming a dog walker or a pet sitter. People are always looking for someone to look after their pets while they are at work or on holiday.

While there are no specific qualifications required to become a dog walker/pet sitter, having qualifications in animal first aid, animal behavior, or animal care will enhance your professional standing. You can look after pets in your own home or the client's home. Looking after other people's pets is an excellent job if you crave some company or want to keep physically fit.  Just remember you will have to go walking in all weathers!

Gardener

Tending to people’s gardens can be an enjoyable way to earn some extra cash.  People now have busy lives and don’t always have the time or inclination to keep their gardens in an admirable state or cut their grass.  Post some flyers through local doors offering your services. You might not even have to invest in tools if the client has their own. Gardening is another job where you can choose your hours to suit.

Bed and Breakfast

If you have a house with spare rooms and an extra bathroom, you could think about running a bed and breakfast business. If you are a particularly sociable person, this could be a great idea as you will meet new people from all over the world with interesting stories to tell.  Getting up early to make breakfast and doing a spot of cleaning afterward is pretty much all there is to it, and the rest of the day, you will have free to do your own thing.  You can just do bed and breakfast during the tourist seasons or during a special event that might be happening in your area, meaning that you don’t have to do it all year.

Tutoring

Were you a teacher, or did you work in skilled employment? You could put your expertise to good use and become a tutor to children and grownups. Once again, you can do hours to suit and meet new people. Tutoring will also help keep your brain active and offer a sense of achievement, and you will feel useful.
