First Major Beer Brand Debuts Plastic-Free Six-Pack Rings

It's no secret that plastic is slowly destroying our oceans. An article we published earlier this year states that by 2025, there could be more plastic in the sea than fish. If you read our article, you'll find that companies are already on board and working towards solutions that cut down or eliminate plastics. Another company that has recently joined the important trend is Corona.

Corona is currently testing plastic-free six-pack rings and is the first global beer brand to do so. According to an article in Fast Company, smaller breweries are already using the innovating new packaging, which biodegrades if it reaches the ocean and can even be safely eaten by ocean wildlife if mistaken for food.

A startup called E6PR ("eco six-pack ring") developed the new product that has been in use by small breweries, but Corona will be extensively testing how the rings perform in regards to durability, handling and interactions within the factories. The rings provide a crucial environmental benefit, but Corona wants to make sure consumer experience is not sacrificed. If all goes well, this could be the beginning of a shift throughout the entire industry.

You can do your part in the fight against plastic by supporting companies that are doing their part. Cheers!
