Keeping a Classic Car in Mint Condition

Whether you drive your classic car every opportunity you get, or keep it reserved for only special occasions, there are some important pointers to keep in mind that will keep your car safe from the hot summer sun.

Our classic car experts at Whites Bodyworks have put together the following tips that will help you preserve the beauty of your classic vehicle.

Solar protection

Just like you and I, your car needs some protection from the harmful rays of the sun. Choose a good brand of top quality polish on hand to keep the paintwork in excellent conditions on the hottest summer days.

Clean as a whistle

A good coat of polish also allows your car to easily shed dust, dirt and water. This makes it easier to take the car for a spin when needed.

Old school vinyl

Vinyl roofing was a classic feature of many cars built in the 1960s to the 1970s, unfortunately it doesn’t hold up well against the intense UV rays. Applying a silicon coating can help keep the rays of the sun from damaging your vinyl roof.

Provide Shade

Do all you can to protect the vinyl interior from the harmful rays of the sun. This can be done effectively with a windshield sunshade that protects the dashboard and seat from solar radiation. This will also protect you from terrible burns that can make your car very uncomfortable.

Keep Cool

These older models are not fitted with such effective cooling systems as found in some of our modern cars. If you tend to get nervous as you watch the engine temperature gauge climbing higher, choose times when the roads will be empty and quiet to take your classic car for a spin.

Car Shipping

By choosing to ship your classic car rather than driving it for long trips or vacations you will be avoiding putting unnecessary mileage on the car which will depreciate the overall value. If you choose to ship your classic car in an enclosed car carrier, you will also be protecting your car from small road debris as well as inclement weather such as rain and snow.

Cover up

Before heading out onto the roads and highways, make sure you are properly insured. Nowadays there are many options especially suited to classic car owners. These can provide you coverage for a car that is driven frequently and even those that are out of commission in a garage.
