New Airline Closes Gap Between Commercial and Private Flights

What if you could fly first class for less?

You're boarding a flight and you're forced to walk through first class, feeling a bit envious of all the extra amenities. We've all likely been there. If you've flown first class before, it can be quite a different experience than being stuck in basic coach, crammed into a middle seat with virtually no leg room. First class is pricey though and most people either can't afford it or don't think it's worth all the extra money.

A new airline, Aura, addresses the desire for luxury and affordability with an innovative concept that targets frequent travelers. Aura redesigned Bombardier CRJ700 planes that normally seat 75 passengers with just 29 seats. The luxury planes feature 21 "first class" seats, which resemble first class seating on commercial flights with more legroom, gourmet meals, and WiFi, and 8 "wave class" seats, which mimic private-jet travel.

The airline offers a subscription-based service to fly on these "semi-private" jets. So you pay a monthly fee and have access to lower, fixed fares. If you're not a member, you can still fly on Aura, but it will cost you more. Aura offers routes between major North American metropolitan hubs and will start bookings in 2019.

Flights operate out of private hangers, so passengers only need to arrive about 20 minutes before takeoff - a huge time savings for frequent travelers. Aura also offers many business services on board.

While the cabins look awesome and all the amenities seem to be top-notch (including zero gravity seats and five-course meals), the current posted fares only seem like they would be a decent price if you're a member who flies often. However, only you can put a price on an experience and this does look like quite the experience.
