Popular Judy Blume Book Being Turned Into a Movie

We all know the name Judy Blume. If you are a younger baby boomer you may have been reading her children and teen novels as they were being published in the 1970s. If you have children, they probably read Blume's books at some point, as several of her books appear on the list of top all-time bestselling children's books.

Blume has sold over 82 million books since publishing her first novel in 1969 and has won over 90 literary awards. Accomplished she is, but not without controversy through the years. According to Wikipedia, the American Library Association has named Blume as one of the most frequently challenged authors of the 21st century. Why? Some of Blume's most prolific works were her early books - young adult books that covered taboo topics, such as racism, menstruation, divorce, bullying and sexuality. At the time, and maybe even still now, not everyone thought these topics were age-appropriate. The author explained to WorldNews Network, "I wanted to be honest. And I felt that no adult had been honest with me. We didn't have the information we should have had."

Now, one of those controversial young adult books is being made into a movie, continuing Blume's presence in yet another generation. Are You There God? It's Me Margaret will be written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig. A Yahoo article features an interview with the author, in which she talks a little about the book.

While the author started out writing young adult novels, she tackled adult novels in subsequent years, several of which - Wifey, Smart Women, and Summer Sisters - were New York Times best sellers.
