Top Tips How To Dress Up For A Mountain Hike

The best rest, as they say, is a change of scenery. Hiking in the mountains is one of those types of recreation in which a change of scenery will be guaranteed to you every day. Cool morning with sun-drenched tops of mountain ranges and peaks, covered with a thin crust of ice, frozen after a night frost, mountain lakes. Midday with real summer heat, drowning snowfields, and glaciers with harsh sun. Towards evening - silence with lengthening shadows, clouds that begin to rise from the valley, the "cinematic" light of the rapidly setting sun. Drizzling rain, saturating the surrounding air with freshness.

A piercing cold wind flying parallel to the ground, frozen snow-like foam, a fog of such density that you can't see your teammate, who is walking just 10-15 meters ahead of the glacier. Holidays in the mountains are characterized by the fact that even being down in the valley, you will surely encounter a wide variety of weather: from the scorching sun to wind and snow, and if so, then it makes sense to take care of choosing the right clothes. On the one hand, you want to feel comfortable in your clothes, but on the other you don’t want the weight of your backpack to be excessive.

Choosing clothes

We do not dress by putting on ourselves everything that is in the house. We choose clothes responsibly. Remember that the complete experience of the hike depends on the right choice. You don't want to come back sick or choose clothes that make it hard to walk in. In the spring, the first forays into nature are traditionally associated with the May Day holidays. By these days, a rather warm dry weather sets in, the sun pleases, and a fresh breeze beckons to the bosom of nature. So, let's start choosing clothes.

Underwear

For those who are very sensitive in the cold, we recommend wearing thermal underwear. Perhaps you will rest near the river or in the forest, where it is not as warm as in the city. You may need to squat on a log or grass. Therefore, thermal underwear will help you out and keep you warm. If you do not have one, we advise you to get one, since it is such a part of the wardrobe that it can easily be used in everyday life, for example, in winter during severe frosts.

Socks

A must and very important part of a mountain hike outfit. In order to prevent the socks from rubbing calluses during movement, they must be precisely matched in size so that the heel does not "walk", and the sock sits on the leg like a glove. For hot weather, socks with a low top are designed for better ventilation. If you are planning to climb above the snow zone, then you will need warm socks with a high top. Proper mountain trekking socks have reinforcement zones - denser in the heel and toe area and less dense in the calf area for better ventilation. If you are planning mountain hikes in the winter, then a trekking + warm, high socks combination will be the right one. Trekking socks will take care of keeping your feet free from calluses and warm models will keep your feet warm. A good option would be to have a special warm pair for spending the night.

Trekking trousers

They are used as universal trousers during a transfer to the mountains, during acclimatization in the valley, during easy tracks, during the daytime on the route. Particularly popular are models that have a large number of pockets to put the little things needed during the trip: a navigator, a map, nutrition bars, etc. The vast majority of trekking trousers are made of durable, rip-stop technology and elastic fabrics that stretch well and protect from mechanical damage. We recommend that you buy trousers with the ability to unfasten the legs in order to get shorts. Look for womens hiking pants models with a water-repellent finish to keep you dry in rainy weather.

Gloves

Be sure to bring some simple gloves with you. They can be useful for collecting brushwood for lighting a fire or collecting garbage, as well as for their intended purpose - for warming hands. In the spring in the morning in the forest, it is often very cold or frosty.

Trekking suit

This is ideal, but since this is your first camping trip, it may not always make sense to buy it. It is worth combining from the clothes that you have. The jacket must be good at allowing moisture to go out and keep warm and must be lightweight. And the trousers protect the legs from mechanical damage, ticks and other insects. Most people can find suitable trousers in their wardrobe, but not always a jacket. But don't go after the super latest technology and ski options when choosing one. For a short hike, a light trekking jacket with a temperature range from 0 to +15 is enough.

Shoes

Shoes should be water-repellent with a thick sole. If this is your first hike, it is best to wear ankle-braced boots to reduce the possibility of foot injuries while hiking under the weight of a backpack. Pay attention to the sole, it should not slip!

Headdress

For hiking, a light knitted hat or a warm baseball cap is suitable. Regardless of the sunny day during your hike, early spring is not a reason to ditch your headgear. Have it in your backpack.
