Town in Italy Offers Opportunity of a Lifetime
Silvia Marchetti, CNN

A picturesque village in Italy is selling homes for $1. Yes, you read that right! If you've ever dreamed of owning a home in an authentic Italian village, now is your chance. Perhaps you have thought about retiring abroad...or downsizing and buying a second home that you can use as a vacation house. Maybe you’re looking for an adventure! In any event, the town of Ollolai, on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, is offering an opportunity of a lifetime.

There has to be a catch, right? There is: you must commit to fixing up the dwellings, which are all in very poor condition, within three years. This will likely cost at least $25,000, possibly much more depending on your standard of living. Ollolai, which has seen its population drastically dwindle over the years, is selling these homes to help rejuvenate the town and boost its economy.

An article on CNN shows pictures of some of the houses and you can see that it would require extensive work to get these homes up to date and livable by today's standards. It still sounds like a pretty good deal though if you're up for a challenge with a big reward at the end - a home in an ancient Italian town that offers a peaceful and healthy lifestyle, with fresh air, beautiful views, a short drive to pristine seas and delicious cuisine - at a bargain price.
