Crafting has recently made a comeback, but has it ever really gone out of style? With websites and apps like Pinterest and Esty, there's no shortage of inspiration when it comes to getting your craft on! As we've discussed in several articles, learning new things as we age helps to keep our brains sharp, so crafting is a great way to give your brain a little workout.

As a kid, you probably dabbled in arts and crafts and if you're like most kids, you probably loved one crafting staple more than any other: glitter! Glitter doesn't have to be just for kids though. So, we thought it would be fun to highlight a few fun things you can make with glitter. Gather your supplies, with the help of an online glitter store, and get ready for some sparkly fun.

As we're in December, we decided to start off with something that is great for the holidays, whether it's for you or to give as a gift: a glitter filled ornament. Take a clear ornament and pour some polycrylic in it. Swirl it around so that all of the inside is coated, then stand it upside down on a piece of foil for a couple minutes to let the excess drip out. Next, pour your choice of glitter in. Consider iridescent glitter for an extra wow factor. Rotate and keep rotating until there are no spots without glitter. To personalize it, you can add vinyl decorations, stickers, or use paint markers.

Another quick and fun craft is to add some glitter to a wine glass to give your happy hour a little more pizzazz. Take a wine glass and clean where you will be applying glitter with some isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball. Once dry, tape off the area you want to cover with glitter with painter's tape (if you want to cover the base, tape right above the base, if you want to cover the stem, tape below and above the stem - this helps keep the glitter only where you want it ). Next, paint a thick, even layer of glass glue on the glass. Choose your glitter, perhaps some color shift glitter for a cool effect, and pour it on the glass glue until evenly covered. Let dry for at least an hour, and then seal the glitter with some Krylon Crystal Clear spray. Let dry overnight. Be sure to only hand-wash your masterpiece and no heavy scrubbing!

Crafting can also be a perfect activity to share with your grandchildren. Better yet, you can keep the crafts and display them around your home, or bring them out for certain holidays. A sure-to please glitter activity to do with your grandkids is glitter slime. Mix 4oz Elmer's glue, 4 oz warm water, 1/2 teaspoon of Borax and some glitter. If your slime is too sticky, mix 1/2 teaspoon of Borax and 1/4 cup warm water and slowly add into your slime until desired textured is reached.
