Get Fit While You Sit
By Lauren Ratcliffe

With gyms closed and social distancing becoming as much a part of the daily routine as brushing your teeth, staying active has been challenging in 2020. With winter months rapidly approaching, the days of outdoor walks and exercise this year are limited. Finding ways to remain active has never been more important.

A stat that became increasingly apparent during the pandemic is that the average person sits for 10 hours a day. The human body is not designed to spend a third of the day sitting, engaging in sedentary activities. Studies have indicated that a sedentary lifestyle doubles the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity.

Dr. Zvi Pearlstein, a retired orthopedic surgeon, has focused his efforts on a solution to combat sedentary lifestyles called SitFit Chair.

“I wanted to create a great tool for people of all ages and abilities to increase physical activity and prioritize a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. Zvi.

According to the CDC, 117 million Americans have one or more preventable chronic diseases.

Seven of the 10 most common chronic diseases are favorably influenced by regular physical activity, yet nearly 80 percent of adults are not meeting the key guidelines for both aerobic activity and muscle stretching and strengthening.

SitFit Chair has been eight years in the making. It’s a novel fitness lounge chair that offers a total body workout and total comfort, accommodating any fitness level.

As a result of society’s insecurity, lack of free time, current COVID-19 restrictions, and many personal reasons for not wanting to use a gym, more people are investing in home fitness equipment.

But home gym equipment can get costly in a hurry and be confusing to use. SitFit Chair was designed as an upright and reclining multi-positional, multi-functional chair that integrates the comfort of a lounge chair with a novel resistance training system offering a large variety of exercises. Users can enjoy a fluid motion through the core to perform exercises like ab crunches and low back extensions, and work their biceps, triceps, lats, deltoids, quadriceps, hamstrings, abductors, adductors, and glutes with resistance bands that attach to the chair’s frame.

“I thought if people had a light, portable chair that easily provided all the exercise functions of a gym, our sedentary lifestyles would become a thing of the past,” said Dr. Zvi.

Whether motivated to stay active for your children, to keep up with your grandchildren, or just looking to change up your routine, SitFit Chair is a great way to tell that sedentary lifestyle to, “take a seat!”
