How to Organize Your Tools

Without a proper organizational system, DIY can get messy and unsafe very quickly. If you are working with power tools and hazardous substances, you need to be careful with storing them. An organization system can help you find all your tools and maximise your time spent crafting.

Your DIY belongings should be stored up high and in a separate room for any little ones and pets. They could wander into your workshop and hurt themselves on something sharp. Follow these tips to keep your DIY workshop neat.

Find a dedicated space

You need a dedicated space to work on projects and store your tools. The garage or shed is the perfect place for a workshop, and it’s out of the way of family life. You can spend some time absorbed in your work without worrying about your children reaching for sharp objects. DIY is also a messy business, and it’s best to keep your work away from the main house.

Vertical storage

Vertical storage keeps your tools off the floor so you can’t trip over them or damage them. If you have a smaller space, use the walls to store your tools and leave the floor free for working. Use shelving to display tools on the wall and use pegboards to hang lighter items, like a spanner and measuring tape. You can hang different pots from the pegboard with various nuts and bolts, screws and handy items. Keep your smaller items grouped and reserve bigger spaces for your power tools. Just make sure your shelving space is dry and secure.

Try a tool box

Toolboxes are still incredibly popular today and can allow you to store all your tools in a secure place. You can carry the box to different locations and keep your most-used items in one place. Most toolboxes also come with inserts to separate different types of tools from one another.  You can buy a bigger box if you have lots of tools or a small one for the basic items. Keep your handyman toolbox in an easy to reach location, so you can do DIY jobs efficiently.

Keep the packaging

The best way to store power tools is in their original packaging. You can reduce the tangled wires hanging from shelves and avoid searching for random manuals. Keep everything related to the tool in one box, so it’s easy to find. The protecting packaging will also protect the tool from any leaks and damage in your workshop.

Embrace your organization side and make your workshop a safer place to be.
