New Year = New You
By Joanie Marx

Making New Year’s Resolutions are a tradition. Sadly, though, this is not the only tradition for New Year’s Resolutions.

If you are like most people, you start each New Year with earnest intentions, inspired goals, and high hope for a New You. By the start of March, however, hope for achieving this is already waning, with most resolutions and goals are just faint unachieved thoughts.

Now, when we look at the unfamiliar and uncertain world we are navigating right now, what chance do we have now of manifesting our goals and desires for 2021?

Now What?

For instance, think about the traditional resolutions and desires such as improved health and wellness, new romantic relationships, dream vacations, and increasing your income. But one glance around the world and it is clear these once easily accessible options for creating a New You are not so easily available in this New Year.

No trips to the malls to search for the latest fashions. No gyms to go and shed a few pounds. No reservations at high energy filled restaurants or even our old standby favorites. No theatre, no parties, no trips to unexplored amazing places to give us a feeling of exciting experiences to renew and refocus ourselves.

If many of our traditional go-to choices for fun, excitement, success and fulfillment are temporarily closed, or so extremely curtailed that the experience of engaging with them is diminished, now what?

When & Where It Matters Most

This year the zest for life and all that it can hold for us will not come from outside of us. It must be born out of our own inner energy and drive. Our desired resolutions must flow from our inner soul to affect the outside world, not the other way around.

This may sound nice but if many of the places and activities we used to associate our sense of belonging and self-worth to are no longer an option, how can we create a new way of being, from the inside out?

This New Year has gifted us a rich and abundant opportunity to look inward and refocus and renew our lives when and where it matters most. This means taking time to tap into our inner most desires but to also clearly see what are the root causes that have created formidable obstacles to self-love, long-term happiness and sustainable fulfillment.

Our resolve for a New You in this New Year, therefore, comes from within. The more we develop an unshakable sense of self-worth the more unstoppable we will be.
